A WILDLIFE WONDERLAND

DEEP IN AMAZONIA

ECUADOR. AMAZONIA.

Not just a region, but a lifestyle.

It is said that the name Amazonas is derived from an ancient Greek myth about a nation of warrior women descended from Ares, the God of War. Francisco de Orellana, who explored the area in the 16th century, gave it its name.

Here within the borders of The Yasuni Biosphere Reserve, the ecosystem is a limitless wonder of biodiversity and a global refuge for threatened species.

good to know and explore!

The Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest is a natural wonder that allows the opportunity to see a diversity of wildlife unknown in other areas of the world.  At the same time, it is a surprisingly small part of the region that covers a large part of the north of the South American continent, so fundamental to the well-being of humans for its significant contribution of food, water, medicine and clean air.

THE ECUADORIAN AMAZONIA STRETCHES MORE THAN 135,000 km2

While it is bigger than India and Mexico combined, it is still only 2% of the entire Amazon basin

AMAZON vS. AMAZONIA

The term “Amazon” technically refers to the river itself, the longest in the world, while “Amazonia” is the name for the region surrounding the river, including the Amazon basin and its tributaries. It is also called the Amazon rainforest. It includes portions of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.

INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES

The Ecuadorian Amazon is home to thousands of Indigenous people from over 200 nationalities, including the Pilche, Shuar, Zaparo, Huaorani, and Quichua
